LOVE FAKE? UT X miss maki nomiya

Bought this tee today. I also like the studded, knit and fringe versions, which you can see here. But I only saw studded and spangle at Uniqlo.
I love the LOVE FAKE? concept, and that it's the girl from Pizzicato Five.
Well I don't know very much about them, only that I have a couple of their albums in my iPod, and I like listening to their chirpiness. Plus their MVs are kinda weird/ old school/ cool.
Here's a song that always makes my head go bob bob bob.

Welcome to Taiwan

(Image from here.)
Monocle is doing a Touring Taiwan series of videos - the first one here. If it all works out, I should be there end of the year. Ah, can't wait.
The article Taiwan hit factory (story's in print in the magazine but you can check out the video report via the link) was one of the reasons why I bought Issue 22. Not because the pop and music industry there is unfamiliar to me, but because I was curious about a non-Asian, non-Chinese perspective. It seems like they pretty much hit all the right notes, though I wish they had covered more.

Singalong Song
Not a fan of Khalil Fong/方大同 but I like this.
Plus the MV is really pretty with turquoise skies, a cute typewriter and lovely seasides.

Three very different Tizzy Bac MVs
The latest album 如果看見地獄,我就不怕魔鬼 is totally growing on me. The more I listen the more I love.
The first MV is my favourite of the lot. It's strangely inspiring for a Bali wedding I'll be attending in May, though I think if the bride watches the MV, she'll be worried I said that.

Love Shuffle no more!
Let's take a moment to look back at my favourite sets on the show.
The foyer as their living room and all the random things they do there.
As well as the cafe/bar where they hang out.
Actually one of the things from the show that surprised me was the use of Eternal Flame as a recurring soundtrack. You get to hear it in every episode, I think.
Eternal Flame by The Bangles was released in 1989. By the time I heard and liked the song, it was long enough after that I thought of it as older than its actual age.
I'm not sure what it is that surprises me. Perhaps it's the vague notion that it has been used in other Japanese dramas before. Perhaps it's the fact that when I first heard it it was under 10 years old but now it's practically an adult.

Gadgety
Ayumi Hamasaki's new album Next Level will also be released on this limited edition 2GB USB stick. I actually find it rather pretty but it's also rather pricey. Can be pre-ordered from yesasia if you wish.

NYT reviews Kindle version 2. I find it interesting to read about Kindle but I am still not sure I want to read on it.
I think it sounds amazing and the thought of carrying 1,500 books around with me actually has me very thrilled. It's my hoarding mentality. Like how I find the 30GB on my ipod way too little despite how I only regularly listen to less than 10 or mayb even five percent of the stuff in there. Or how I feel compelled to carry all my toy cameras with me when I was in Tokyo. It's the fact that you are carrying so many possibilities, and the chances of those times in life when you realise all that heavy bag-lugging, lopsided shoulders and aching neck muscles have been worthwhile because you have with you everything you suddenly need to create the moment you want.
Still, it's true. Real books can never be replaced. And you know, that actually adds to the appeal of the Kindle.
Although the most terrifying flaw of it has to be this:
But as traditionalists always point out, an e-book reader is a delicate piece of electronics. It can be lost, dropped or fried in the tub. You’d have to buy an awful lot of $10 best sellers to recoup the purchase price. If Amazon goes under or abandons the Kindle, you lose your entire library. And you can’t pass on or sell an e-book after you’ve read it.
That might just kill me.

eep
This set made me rethink what is actually creepier - abandonment that has been ravaged by time or the newly forsaken that has taken on a Stephen King everyone-just-vanished-without-a-trace-and-the-world-is-still-and-silent-but-for-your-breathing-which-is-growing-more-rapid-due-to-panic quality.
That said, the colours really are great.

Thing is, it says "abandoned infectious hospital" on the post. My immediate reaction was: Erm. Should you be in there?
As you can see, I am not made for exploring abandoned spaces. In fact, a whole night of going through the archives has strengthened my resolve to not step into places in which I will basically scare myself to death.
To appease my overactive imagination, I have been listening to one of my favourite ah lian Jolin Tsai songs (墓仔埔也敢去) while looking at pictures. In searching for the video, I found the most awkward, cringe-worthy stage performance by Jolin and Wubai.
Much better off with this version.
There. Not so creeped out anymore.

wonderwall

I like the index cards that come with my processed film. In miniature, all the pictures look good and the composite message of each card is happy, pretty adventures. I look forward to the day they cover the entire wall.
Thinking about it made me think of Oasis and Wonderwall. I like that my photowall has a soundtrack.

Imagine
Had an early Christmas dinner with the (select few) folks from the office and it involved some seriously old school karaoke. Meaning MIDI music and corny videos of scenery and women washing clothes by the river.
There, while watching the above music video, I learned that:
1. Imagine comes on at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve at Zouk, and the entire club bursts into song in unison. I don't enjoy clubs nor crowds but the thought of being part of such a sight is almost enough to make me want to be there.
2. There is a telephone in the John Lennon Museum that only Yoko Ono has the number to, and the story is that she will sometimes call. My colleague hung around beside the telephone for 10 minutes, but I guess Yoko Ono didn't feel like chatting to strangers that day.
I don't know if she actually calls. I tried randomly googling for stories about conversations with her, to no avail. Still, the idea that she might, that any moment the phone might ring, is pretty cool, isn't it?

It was dusk and I don't concentrate very well at dusk. The disappearing light always makes me go into a daydream state.
So I stretched out in bed and listened to the new 陳珊妮 album while waiting for night to suck away the remnants of daylight.
如果有一件事是重要的
What is it?
Saw something amusing this afternoon. It was scorching hot and I was on bus 36 which was going around the Suntec fountain. They have put up huge Precious Moments figurines around the fountain and amongst them is a snowman.
There were three people with a suitcase standing in front of the snowman. One was holding a camera and two were hastily throwing on scarves on top of their thick, fluffy winter coats. They all looked a little sheepish and seemed to be trying to hurry while glancing around.
It was rather cute. Made me smile. Wonder who or what they're taking that picture for.

I wonder if this guy still has a job.
I was rather appalled by the thought of letting a music stylist tell you what to play to match your home. A shop, I can understand. Letting someone tell you what to wear, if you're a public figure who has to portray a certain image, maybe. But music styling for your home?
That's insane. Music and books are highly personal. I'll listen to what I want to listen to, thank you very much.
