But I'm not tempted.

I would buy it in a heartbeat if it's a Holga Mini.

But the Diana. I've decided that I can't stand the way it looks. Gratingly prissy.

So I'll just stick to the Tokyo Rising I have, and leave it at that.

But it's a great concept. And I'd love to see the pictures you took with this camera.

Two really cool projects

I still remember when I first heard of Friendster. It was new then, and barely known in Singapore. But I was really curious about the six degrees of separation and wanted to find out just how small this world is. So I forwarded the email to my friends and encouraged them to sign up just so I could find out how things would go. But of course, that was then. These days, being haunted by even kindergarten classmates on Facebook is something that we have to deal with.

In any case, human chains and social networks fascinate me.


Frankie (I know I reference them way too much, but they just unearth so much wonder. Just, let me indulge.) wrote about Tweenbots, tiny lo-tech robots that require human helping hands to get to their destination. They literally need a push in the right direction. I love this bit here:

Often, people would ignore the instructions to aim the Tweenbot in the “right” direction, if that direction meant sending the robot into a perilous situation. One man turned the robot back in the direction from which it had just come, saying out loud to the Tweenbot, "You can’t go that way, it’s toward the road.”

Then there is the disposable memory project. Over 100 cameras have been sent out and are being passed around the world. The idea is for the cameras to return to source at the end, so the organisers can develop the photos and let them tell the story of the journey.

It's an awesome idea but my one grouse from looking at some of the sets is that people are taking way too many photos. Very often, a camera has only been handled by two or three people, which I find a little disappointing.

Well, it's still an interesting idea. I saw it on Lomotion and the commenters were discussing how it would never work here because Singaporeans would just keep the camera for themselves. I don't know. What do you think?

It's analog digitised. You can take pictures and you can make films. It promises to inspire filmmakers around the world with its "melancholic image quality".

Melancholic image quality. Doesn't that just sound so desirable?

樂魔 / The Negative Effect is a movie documentary about a group of young people obsessed with film photography. I like when the girl says in the video she shoots anything - taps, walls, roads, toilet bowls... Because that's what it feels like. When you pick up the camera you are possessed by this 無聊神/ irrational urge to shoot anything and everything.

There was once I walked past a construction site and took a picture of two men working on a two-storey high bridge. They saw my camera aimed at them and jokingly posed for me. After I took the picture they laughed and said in Hokkien: 吃飽沒事做 (literally, too free after eating).

I deliberated between throwing a rock at them and laughing.

I guess people are generally curious or amused, especially with the more toy-like plastic cameras. I don't encounter a lot of mocking, which is good, cos otherwise I really will start hurling rocks.

Fisheyed

I never get tired of looking at the cameras and electronics on urbanoutfitters.com. There's always some cute camera or headphones to love.

This bright pink fisheye camera is now on sale at USD 38 and I absolutely covet it. Not just because it's pink but because it's so thoroughly pink.




Of course, the Fisheye 2 is a much better camera. It also looks cute, because it comes with an accessory viewfinder that allows you to preview the effect of the fisheye lens on what you're framing. And you can do multiple exposures, long exposures, and add another flash with the hotshoe to do funny things with it in combination with the in-built flash.

But this is so brilliantly pink!

Why is my bag so heavy

Sometimes I think I shouldn't carry big bags because I fill it up and my shoulder and back start to hurt. But then if I don't, I will have to carry paper bags and plastic bags and all sorts of random items and then my hands and arms and fingers will hurt as well. I'm the kind who likes to lug everything in one enormously heavy burden so my hands are kept free.



The other day I came back so tired from carrying my bag I decided to take pictorial evidence of the reason why. So that when I'm old with a bad back I can see I only have myself to blame.
