Didn't manage to read very many books this year. Went through an Ann Patchett phase (Bel Canto was probably my favourite), raced through The Hunger Games Trilogy, managed Book 3 of the Game of Thrones series and half of Book 4 before I got too mad again at the injustice to continue, sobbed when I finally tackled The Road, felt invigorated and inspired by Born to Run and Wild, then somewhat let down by the new Irving, frowned when I realised that sumo was more or less a traditionally and officially rigged sport, envied the gracefulness of Chad Harbach's storytelling, savoured Dave Chua's The Beating lying on a bench located in a hilltop fortress in Prague, learnt new things about climate change and the Arctic and with three days to go, barring late surprises, decided that The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay was hands down the best book I could not put down in 2012.

There were others, and quite a number of magazines like the newly discovered Lucky Peach, highly Instagrammed Kinfolk (gorgeous photos and pretty design but the writing is, hmm, most of the time not to my taste), and the #lastprintissue (I really like the hastagged coverline) of Newsweek, but these were more or less the highlights.
