The Obsession with Poofy Skirts
So the other day I was rather taken with this poofy little skirt at Topshop (Lido). It had horizontal stripes of various widths running across in cream and shades of blue. It had two oversized frilled pockets, one on each side. It was a cute skirt and as my friends said, it could be worn cute or vintage-ish.
But I don't do any of those. In my head, I was intent on decutifying and going along a more, shall I say arty farty look? Like the above. But in the end, I decided against that skirt cos of the lousy material. It was limp and tired when it would have been much better stiffer, thicker and with more saturated colours.
It's a good thing I did, because the next day, I was at Topshop again (Vivo) and I found the above skirt. I also caved in to a pair of extra long leggings because I tried it on - the fit was perfect and the fabric excellent.
I've been holding out on leggings for so long. But for someone with so many pairs of socks ranging from angle to to knee to above knee to thigh highs, and with tonnes of tights ranging from sheer shocking pink to sombre blacks, greys and dark purples, I suppose it was only a matter of time. So I gave in with a resigned sigh.
But I would never, never, NEVER do leggings at in-between lengths. I absolutely loathe that look, especially with blue denim minis. Is there any better way to stunt your body and make yourself look short, stumpy and completely disproportionate? No.
So they have to be long, covering the knobbly parts of the ankles or even down to half the feet like how Marni started it a couple of seasons ago.
(Just recalled that I have worn footless tights before. But ankle length with me pulling them down as long as they would go. The leggings look way better though.)
Anyway, it's a better skirt with better fabric and cut. Working on figuring out a top for it since I don't exactly have the above one from Miu Miu.
Something along these lines maybe?
Deliberately jewellery-free to keep the attention on the bigger picture.
