Biennale Remnants

Some last shots of the Biennale from City Hall.

This is my favourite. When we walked into the room, it was a field of colour. Walking to the other side of the room, my jaw dropped when I turned because suddenly, I was facing a field of black. Walking slowly by the side, you can see the colour slowly change, as if it's running through. It was pretty amazing. I should taken shots of the other angles, but was too overwhelmed and distracted.

Oh and to the mathematician. Do you remember, when we bumped into you, we were telling you we took pictures of something you can knit for my birthday?

I can do without the bird thing (pelican?) if you don't have time. Between the lampshade and the scooter, I prefer the latter.

I like this set together.

I have to confess that I was more intrigued and taken by the South Beach Development premises than most of the Biennale exhibits.

hot wet sticky
10/24
revolting humidity scorching sun
although i have to be grateful for the latter

Containart Pavilion Respite

Not very good with the flash. Didn't like some of the pictures taken with flash. Then there were those that simply didn't come out.

But I did have fun trying my luck with prolonged exposures though.

Shigeru Ban

I first read about Shigeru Ban and his famous paper tube structures in Designing Design by Kenya Hara (a most remarkable read, by the way).

This evening, dropped by the Containart Pavilion cos lawyer wanted to see Club 21's Art of the T. A couple of the tee exhibits were pretty cool but Shigeru Ban's container and paper tube structure was probably the most amazing thing I saw tonight.

I didn't have my digi cam with me, so you just have to trust me when I say the structure is stunning, and it's made especially so by its location. If you haven't already done so, go during twilight and relish looking up at the paper tube columns while gravel crunch under your feet. Then run to the back and stand in the bamboo pole & slipper forest and look up and around. Walk all around the inside of the structure and peer out of all the 'windows' and peek out in between the giant paper tube columns.

It's really, really fantastic.

Wasn't planning to visit the Biennale till later part of Oct but I'm glad I had this preview. Will be back again soon.

(Although, is it just me or is the Biennale website really shitty and user unfriendly? Seems to me like all the links lead to useless pages of useless words with no clear summary of everything you can expect to see. In the end I had to resort to looking through the press release and programme, which is also another long pile of excessive info for someone who just wants a good overview. Shan't bother to link something so useless.)

(And how about a tagline other than Let the enchantment begin? It's not Disney on Ice leh.)
