The Mathematician and His Beloved Equation remains one of the most perfect films I've ever seen. I've never been able to find the DVD.
It's based on a Yoko Ogawa novel titled The Housekeeper and The Professor and since the English translation was released last year, I've been avoiding it. The nuances and refinement of Japanese novels can be lost in translation to English, and I didn't want to risk ruining perfection.
But I saw this post and my heart stirred.
So I read it, and it wasn't too bad, and it reminded me just how much I am looking forward to this year's Japanese Film Festival (because it was at one years ago where I saw the above), which has a heart-burstingly excellent line-up.

Don't know what you were referring to in your previous post, but I always look forward to your blogposts, just so you know.
Yoko Ogawa is my discovery today :)
:)
just that i've been feeling kinda lost, like i've nothing to say anymore. my job makes me feel like i've lost my voice. the irony.
but of course, by posting something so final, it naturally occurs that i would need to break my silence a mere few days later, because there is something out there so amazing i want everyone to know. haha.
so which are you watching? the schedule and complete list isn't up yet right?
think i want to watch quite a lot of it, but yeah, the sched's not up.
Dear Wallflower: But i LOVE jogja too!!!
