Dinner with Murakami is part of the Singapore Indie Doc Fest.
It took me many years to like reading Haruki Murakami. There were too many gushy people involved when I first got to know about him. And I very much don't like anything overhyped by pseudo intellectuals or pseudo anybody. In order to prove myself right, I read a couple of his books, and found them highly pretentious. I believe it was by association to the people who gush over them. I am irrational and unfair that way.
Anyway. It took a great many years before all those aforementioned people became lost to me and I was able to read Murakami again. I read all of it and I have since reread most of it. I still cannot gush over his books and I still stiffen and feel loathing when someone starts to go on about how marvellous the Murakami world is. But I like Kafka on the Shore, Norwegian Wood and his short stories. In fact, I was surprised how much I liked his short stories, because I don't really like short stories in general.
So here's a documentary about Murakami and I don't know if I'd be comfortable subjecting myself to another person's opinions, perspectives and curiosities about him and the Murakami world.
