"Everyone's weird except me"

Humourous essay about being normal, or not, that the friends and I were talking about for a bit.

My favourite bit:

Around the time that I hit seventh grade (which could have been sixth or eighth or ninth), I decided to change my handwriting. I made up a persona and gave her a name and a signature that I liked and styled an alphabet to go with it. I practiced her handwriting until it replaced mine. I saw a man in a restaurant holding his knife and fork the European way, and I changed the way that I ate. A friend slouched, not-caringly, and I did, too. Soon, via books and magazines and (to a lesser extent) other people, I became a sewn-together person inside a skin that was not really my own. And that was comfortable.

I think we can all relate, since one person's normal is always another's weird.

Name me one thing you think is normal about yourself, and one you think is abnormal?

normal: i hold my breath every time someone walks past me for fear they smell bad. sometimes, if they look like i might like they smell, i'll hold my breath til i feel that small breeze u get tat indicates the last air of a passerby is moving past u bef breathing in deeply to c if i'm right.

abnormal: i have a very short little toe.clawlike compared to the rest of my toes.

so wat's urs?

Me:
Normal-i must wash and blowdry my hair before i leave the house, no matter what time it is. People who leave house with greasy or wet hair are gross.

Abnormal-still thinking, will come back in a while.

normal: when i start hanging out with a person a lot, or embark on devouring a blog in its entirety/ an author and all his or her works, etc, i subconsciously pick up language/mannerism tics. when i realise what i am doing, i will make a conscious effort to stop.

ab: i never use towels on my face, even freshly laundered ones. i use tissue paper to dry my face after washing. but always only pat, never rub - i get the feeling the fibres will get stuck in my pores if i rub.

normal: i can't squat with my feet flat on the ground, i can flip my tongue around but only towards the left, though i can't curl it into a V. i can lift my eyebrow and move my ear but only on my left side.

ab?: my thumbs have dislocated joints - i can bend it backwards till the skin on the back of that joint is awfully crease-y.
