It was in Taiwan that I caught 虹の女神, or Rainbow Song.
In an attempt to stretch out our time there, funny girl and I took to catching late night movies. We were staying in Ximenting and there was a cinema near the train station. I liked the theatres. They were small, cosy and clean. Theatres that are not meant for blockbuster flicks.
I saw the poster for the show and since I love Jap films that have pretty blue skies and beautiful cinematography, and I love Juri Ueno, we ended up catching Rainbow Song on one of the nights. (Uncensored Lust, Caution was another movie we caught there.)
I liked the show then, but I didn't think I loved it. Strangely enough, it became something I couldn't get out of my head completely. On off, I'll think about it and start recalling scenes and moments from it. I think I've grown to love it.
Tonight, I was thinking about it again and decided to rewatch it. I will look for the DVD but in the meantime, streaming will do.
You can call it a love story but it's also not quite one. Think of it as unique story of two people. Or just don't think. It's an aesthetically beautiful movie. If you like shows that have no huge drama, that do not stir turbulent emotions but merely leave a dull ache that resonates long after you think it should, give it a go.
