If you're looking for something to watch...

The last Jap drama I watched was Osen, a show that revolves around Japanese cooking and is steeped heavily in Japanese culture and traditions. I finished in less than two days, cos I simply couldn't stop. Each episode's plot revolves around remarkably fascinating facts about Japanese cuisine, such as the episode about katsuobushi, the paper thin shavings scattered on top of takoyaki that I've always wondered about.

You can check out the dramawiki entry here, and a blow by blow account of the first two episodes, complete with screen captures, on memento here, or the official website (in Jap) here.

Also, I like Yu Aoi, who plays the main character. You should definitely also watch Hana & Alice, which she also stars in, and which is one of the best movies ever.
